The terrorist attacks of September 11th drastically changed the security strategy in Lower Manhattan. A massive camera network--dubbed the 'Ring of Steel'--is at the heart of this new strategy. In the first of three videos, security expert Josh Marpet points out the network's street-level features.

In the second of three videos, we go deeper into New York City's 'Ring of Steel' and get a rare look at its central hub, the Lower Manhattan Security Coordination Center. Video from nearly 2000 surveillance cameras is piped to this location, where it is analyzed by security guards and police officers.
